PRIVAT LIVEMONT (1861-1936) [CACAO A. DRIESSEN.] 1900.
15 7/8x31 inches. [Van Leer & Cie., Amsterdam]
Condition A.
Prominent in both the production and consumption of such delicacies as coffee and cocoa, Belgians had the need for a lot of advertising in these fields. Livemont's sensuous approach brought him a lot of commissions for such prominent brands as Rajah, Van Houten and Dreissen. Here, two cherubic children are reaching for a bowl of cocoa held by their impeccably dressed mother. The curves of the hair and the steam from the drink is typical of Livemont's handling of Art Nouveau. Also typical of his work is the concept of white outlines, a design element he invented, which is here used to perfection. The white outlines surround the mother and children, as if encapsulating them within her love and protection. This is the version before letters. Gold 53, DFP-II 1070, Belle Epoque 1980 97.
